New Mexico's Alex Kirk has been selected as the StatSheet Mountain West Player of the Week for the week ending January 14th. Anthony Bennett from UNLV has earned StatSheet's Mountain West Freshman of the Week. Kirk put up big numbers in shooting (60%), scoring (21 pts per game), and rebounding (11.5 per game). The New Mexico sophomore played well in wins against 24th ranked UNLV and Fresno State.

Kirk led all scoring for the Lobos with 23 points on 53% shooting in a close 65-60 win against UNLV. That was followed by a team-leading 19 point and 14 rebound performance in a huge 72-45 victory against Fresno State.

This is the second StatSheet Mountain West Player of the Week award for Alex Kirk. The runner-up this week is senior Colton Iverson from Colorado State. Honorable mention goes to our own Jeff Elorriaga.

StatSheet Mountain West Freshman of the Week: UNLV's Anthony Bennett

Anthony Bennett averaged 27 minutes of playing time starting both games for UNLV. He led all Mountain West freshmen in scoring (17.0 pts per game), rebounding (11.0 per game), and three pointers (2.0 per game). In a 65-60 loss to New Mexico, Bennett led all scoring for the Rebels with 12 and added 6 rebounds. Then in a thin 76-71 win over Air Force, he led all scoring and rebounding with 22 points and 16 rebounds.

Amazingly, Anthony Bennett has won the StatSheet Mountain West Freshman of the Week 5 times. The runner-up is Winston Shepard from San Diego State. Aaron Anderson from Fresno State takes honorable mention. Boise State has won the StatSheet Mountain West Player of the Week award once this season.
