New Mexico's Alex Kirk has been selected as the StatSheet Mountain West Player of the Week for the week ending January 14th. Anthony Bennett from UNLV has earned StatSheet's Mountain West Freshman of the Week. Kirk put up big numbers in shooting (60%), scoring (21 pts per game), and rebounding (11.5 per game). The New Mexico sophomore played well in wins against 24th ranked UNLV and Fresno State.
Kirk led all scoring for the Lobos with 23 points on 53% shooting in a close 65-60 win against UNLV. That was followed by a team-leading 19 point and 14 rebound performance in a huge 72-45 victory against Fresno State.
This is the second StatSheet Mountain West Player of the Week award for Alex Kirk. The runner-up this week is senior Colton Iverson from Colorado State. Honorable mention goes to our own Jeff Elorriaga.
